Shoes: Pleasure and Pain at the V & A (13th June 2015 - 31st January 2016)

Consistently leading the way in terms of fashion exhibitions (with Savage Beauty and Wedding Dresses already in 2015), tomorrow sees the opening day of Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, which takes a look at 200 of the craziest, most beautiful and most agonising footwear from around the world. Sponsored by Clarks and supported by Agent Provocateur, you’ll travel in time - starting thousands of years ago with gold leaf decorated sandals from ancient Egypt to contemporary designs pushing the boundaries of technology.

You’ll also marvel at startlingly high Chopines from Venice from 1600, ornate wedding toe-knob Padukas from 1800, and seventy year old beautifully embellished Roger Vivier heels for Christian Dior. Modern desirable soles include last year’s multi-coloured harlequin Manolo Blahniks, the covetable Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ pump and death defyingly high Zaha Hadid creations for United Nude. I can’t wait to see Caroline Groves’ Parakeet heels - they embody elegance but are probably impossible to walk in! Many shoes will be on display for the first time.
