London Fashion Week - September 12th to 16th 2014

Although London Fashion Week isn't until September, I felt compelled to do a little preview for all you fashion addicts out there who love the frenzied excitement of Fashion Week.To be held at one of my favourite London venues, Somerset House, expect a long weekend of the best of British and international fashion, with sixty shows on the official schedule, thirty "on-schedule" presentations and salon shows, and not to mention the forty-five "off schedule" shows. A large marquee in the central courtyard of Somerset House will play host to the catwalk shows, with the Designer Showrooms to be housed inside the beautiful Neoclassical building.

The benefits to the UK fashion industry are massive; £100 million of orders are placed during LFW each season, with £50 million of orders for international designers. 

The event, one of the Big Four Fashion Weeks (alongside Milan, New York and Paris) is organised by the British Fashion Council and sponsored by Vodafone, along with other sponsors, and attracts 5,000 visitors including fashion industry insiders, buyers, the press and of course photographers to capture all of the catwalk shows for the major print and digital magazines. The Digital Schedule (introduced in 2010) means that shows are streamed live online, ensuring that everyone with an interest in fashion can watch in real time and quickly blog or comment on events as they happen. 

As well as the catwalk shows, visitors have access to the Designer Showrooms, where they can discover over 120 ready-to-wear and accessories designers. There's also multi-brand and individual showrooms and presentations to catch.  An events programme alongside the shows enables visitors to discover other LFW events going on around the city over the five day fashion extravaganza.

 

Anyone that paid close attention to the recent London Collections: Men and February's AW14 shows will know what to expect in September, we get to know the upcoming trends for Spring/Summer 2015 and can gleefully plan ahead for the new season. If you can't make it to LFW, then London Fashion Weekend follows it immediately afterwards which is open to the general public and is guaranteed to send you into a shopping frenzy.
