New York Fashion Week F/W 2014

Just as you've managed to calm down after Paris the style merry-go-round starts again...and we wouldn't change it for the world. New York Fashion Week kicks off on 6th February, lasting for nine style packed  days. And like it or not there have been some major changes to the usual schedule. Unfortunately for some of the exhausted well-heeled in attendance, some designers have decided to eschew the familiar surroundings of the Lincoln Centre and have gone for other venues. Michael Kors and Diane Von Furstenburg originally intended to show at the established venue, but have decided to opt for a new event space - Spring Studios.

Sixty seven designers will show at the Lincoln Centre, which is sponsored by Mercedes Benz. The venue hasn't always been popular with everyone though, with the major issue being the zoo-like nature of the venue. Maybe this played a part in some other major designers breaking away from the masses and doing their own thing.

Alexander Wang is moving to "the place that shall not be named but is now cool" Brooklyn

Donna Karan is showing on Wall Street for her 30th anniversary show

Vera Wang goes to West 22nd Street

Zac Posen's at Laight Street

The centralisation of the shows in the Centre was highly convenient for the swarms of the fash pack, who might be miffed at having to zigzag their derrieres across town. Designers will always want to do something different, and increasingly the venue is becoming a massively important part of the show (look at Dior S/S 14 and Chanel's latest shows to get an idea). Get the venue wrong, and the clothes can be slightly more forgettable. Compliment the clothes and they'll be buzzing until London and beyond.

I'm a bigger fan of Paris and London FWs than New York, but that's no slant against the city, I'm just not a massive fan of American designers. Too ostentacious for me. I'm looking forward to seeing new/up and coming designers and getting inspired by their larger than life attitudes, and getting glimpses of some of my favourite landmarks between the shows. One day..one day soon it will be me getting pissed off having to run between venues and overdosing on a mix of Red Bull/Coffee/Pro Plus and cigarettes.

Although New York revs my engine, Paris Fashion Week will always have a special place in my heart (can you guess that my favourite designers are French)? I'm still pouring over all of that output and need to catch up! Enjoy La Grande Pomme :)
