Embrace your individuality actively in 2016...

In the past couple of years, gym wear has slowly crossed over into streetwear, with graphic printed yoga leggings becoming a weekend staple, and our trusty Nikes worn everywhere, not just the gym (it’s even gained a new fashion term - Athleisure). Designers are trying to keep up with advancements in fabric technology to provide us with the latest breathable, all-singing, all-dancing pieces that are on trend and high performance. Here’s my round-up of what to work out in in 2016!

This on-going collaboration between one of the world’s top sportswear companies and megabrand Stella McCartney is innovative and extremely functional. Skin temperature is regulated and moisture is kept to a minimum due to patented Climacool technology. Bring some colour to your winter workouts with these Climate stretch running top and leggings. Techfit bands also provide muscle support. This gray and navy media player armband lets you listen to the latest tunes and track your progress whilst you workout.

Since the brand opened in 1998 in Notting Hill, London, Sweaty Betty has championed cool active wear for nearly twenty years. Fitness enthusiasts in all disciplines will find stylish yet high performance pieces - this season the label collaborated with fashion designer Richard Nichol to produce a capsule collection which sold out immediately. Gym bunnies will love the Heat Tri Top and shorts which feature high grip hems and quick-drying Sensitive fabric. Fans of the brightest graphic print leggings will love the Splits Run 7/8 Leggings, which wick away sweat effectively and will certainly make you stand out from the gym crowd. I also like the Compression Sleeves which improve circulation and accelerates recovery after exercise.

Yes it’s an obvious choice, but the global brand is consistently at the forefront of exercise technology and its ability to change with the times is second to none. The current Personalised service enables you to choose one of ten NikeiD bestselling trainers, such as Roshe 1 ID and Pegasus 32 iD, then you can play with the colour or add inspirational text, and you can also change performance details like plates and midsoles to help you train better. The Nikelab x Sacai collaboration is redefining sports classics with its pleated jackets, capes and spit tech fleece skirts.

Bandier is a one-stop online activewear shop with a high-fashion edge, and its latest collaborations with street artists and gym wear labels is bound to fly off the shelves. London based artist Malarky Hernandez has teamed up with sculpture wear experts Ultracor to create crazy cartoon prints for leggings, sports bras and jackets. New York based artist Christoper Sauve has produced abstract graphic print leggings and crop tops for Los Angeles based Strut-This whilst graffiti print by artist Upendo Taylor is all over Reebok’s latest collaboration.

This collaboration features the instantly recognisable Katrantzou prints - the second collection was released earlier in 2015 and was an instant hit. The prints incorporate tennis rackets, gymnasts, surf logos, rugby balls, boxing gloves, weights - you name it, most sports are more than adequately represented. You’ll find track tops and pants, tennis skirts and dresses as well as kaleidoscopic sneakers and pool slides which will guarantee your status as the trendiest person exerting themselves.

This Australian owned activewear brand is on a mission - to make it easier for you to incorporate healthy activity into your busy schedule. Their collections are cleverly divided into two sections - high performance workout wear for the gym bunny, yoga devotee, cycling enthusiast and runner, and life - sophisticated basics perfect for low impact activity, travelling, and pre and post workout. Key pieces?  The cut out long sleeve T, The Sweat Sexy Hot Yoga Suit, I’m on Top Day Dress and the layered shorts.

Personalise your workout wear with the Fabletics site - you take a quick lifestyle quiz then based on your answers the site suggests looks tailored to you. You can then check out as regular member or choose VIP membership where personalised picks are sent to you every month. Pieces incorporate more fashion forward fabrics such as lace and sheer for a more elegant workout.

So in 2016 mix designer with high street activewear, look out for the latest collaborations and embrace your individuality!
