Pre-Fall 2015 round up

It's easy to get confused about seasons. Obviously not THE seasons, if there's snow, we generally assume it's winter (not always the case). For me, the term seasons is more applicable to fashion, the main ones being Autumn/Winter (AW) shown in February of the same year, and Spring/Summer (SS) shown in the September prior to it. There's also inter-seasonal collections, Resort, aka Cruise (before Spring/Summer) and Pre-Fall (before Autumn/Winter). There's also haute couture at the end of January (only shown in Paris). Confused yet? Don't be. The trends below tide us over until fashion month starts again in a few weeks. Think of it like a roller coaster, but with more clothes involved :)

Pre-Fall key trends
The main trend is 70s EVERYWHERE - think shearling (Burberry, Chloe, Gucci) flares (Marni, Fendi, Proenza Schoeler), skater skirts (J W Anderson, Mary Katrantzou). If you haven't already noticed, sheer tights and platform Mary Janes (Miu Miu, McQueen, Missoni) are the new winter uniform.
Eveningwear has also enjoyed a massive resurgence, with the likes of Valentino creating stunningly beautiful gowns at every show recently - sheer and embellishments are de rigeur. There's no sign of our obsession with luxe sportswear going anywhere, the collections were all about athleisure, which can be mixed with more elegant pieces in your wardrobe to create a day to evening look. In terms of materials - think tweed and leopard prints (Burberry,  Missoni), and plenty of layers (Alexander Wang). It's still cold enough to invest in a good quality poncho to take you from winter to spring.
